What Does a Corporate Comedian Cost?

Across the industry, somewhere between $300 and $150,000+. That range is useless to you, so here is the specific version: I charge $750 for 30 minutes, and there is no travel charge anywhere in North Carolina. The rest of this page is where those numbers come from and what moves them.

  • Inside North Carolina — no travel charge. Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, Wilmington, Asheville, the same number.
  • Outside North Carolina — travel and hotel are added to the booking.
  • 2 weeks minimum lead time. Longer is better if you want custom material.
  • Booked directly — there is no agency in the middle, so the published rate is the whole fee.

What the Wider Market Charges

Most planners have no benchmark for this, which is how a first quote ends up sounding either insulting or suspicious. Published industry ranges break down roughly like this. They are wide, and sources disagree about the boundaries, because the category runs from a Tuesday bar gig to an arena.

TierTypical rangeWhat you're booking
Local working comic$300 – $1,000Bar shows, small private parties, a short spot at a company dinner
Local or regional pro, corporate event$1,000 – $5,000Company dinners, association chapters, sales kickoffs, holiday parties
Established corporate headliner$5,000 – $15,000Conference keynotes, national association events, client appreciation
TV or streaming name$15,000 – $25,000+Large conventions and multi-day meetings
Celebrity household name$50,000 – $150,000+Brand-driven flagship events

Ranges reflect published US market guidance from booking agencies, marketplaces, and working comedians, compiled August 2026. Agency-published guides tend to start higher, because an agency quotes what you pay including its commission.

Why My Rate Sits at the Bottom of That Table

Two reasons, and neither of them is the one you are worried about.

I live here. A comedian flown in for your Raleigh conference arrives with airfare, a hotel night, and a per diem attached, and those costs are inside the numbers in that table. Mine is a drive. And you are booking me, not an agency that adds its margin to whatever I would have charged you directly.

What you are not getting for the difference is a shorter set, a set that has not been written for your room, or somebody who has never worked a corporate audience.

What Moves the Number

  1. 1

    Set length

The single biggest lever, and the only one on the published rate card. Twenty minutes between awards is a different job from an hour where comedy is the event.

  2. 2

    Travel

A comedian who has to fly in brings airfare, a hotel night, and a per diem with them. Booking somebody already in the state removes that line item entirely.

  3. 3

    Who is in the room

A forty-person team dinner and a five-hundred-person convention are not the same performance, and the larger room carries more risk if the set misses.

  4. 4

How much custom material you want

Material built around your company comes out of a call before the event. On this rate card that call is part of the booking rather than a separate line, but it does need lead time.

  5. 5

    The date

December and spring conference season fill first. A holiday party booked in October is competing with every other holiday party in the Triangle.

Questions Planners Ask About Cost

How much does a corporate comedian cost?
Published industry ranges put local working comics at $300 to $1,000, local and regional professionals at corporate events at $1,000 to $5,000, established corporate headliners at $5,000 to $15,000, and television names at $15,000 and up. Sources disagree on the boundaries because the category runs from a bar gig to an arena. Sheryll Wade books corporate events in North Carolina at $750 for 30 minutes, $1,000 for 45 minutes, and $1,500 for a full hour.
How much does a corporate comedian cost in North Carolina?
A comedian already based in North Carolina costs less than the same act flown in, because there is no airfare, hotel, or per diem attached to the fee. Sheryll Wade is based in Raleigh and charges no travel fee anywhere inside North Carolina, so a Triangle booking costs the published rate of $750 to $1,500 and nothing more.
Why do corporate comedians cost more than club comedians?
A club audience bought tickets to see comedy. A corporate audience was told to be in the ballroom at 8. The corporate set has to be written clean, avoid crowd work on attendees, work for a mixed-age and mixed-seniority room, and land without the room ever having chosen to be there. That is a different job from a club set, and it is priced as one.
Does booking through an agency cost more?
An agency adds its commission to the performer fee, which is part of why agency-published price guides start higher than what individual comedians charge. Sheryll Wade books directly at booking@sheryllwade.com, so the published rate is the whole fee.
What happens if you book the cheapest comedian you can find?
The risk is not a mediocre set, it is a set that goes wrong in front of people who work together on Monday. A comic who has only played bars may do crowd work on an attendee, run blue, or take a shot at management, and none of that is recoverable in a room where everyone knows each other. The money saved is small next to what a bad twenty minutes costs the event.

Now You Can Build the Budget

You know the number before you call. Tell me the date, the room, and how long you want, and I'll tell you if it's open.
