I started stand-up at 40. Apparently it was time.

I started doing stand-up at 40, because apparently a healthy amount of life experience, motherhood, marriage, real estate, and everyday irritation eventually needs a microphone.

I'm Sheryll Wade — a Raleigh-based comedian, wife, boy mom, auntie, and NC REALTOR. My comedy is honest, relatable, and built for people who enjoy laughing at the parts of life that are usually just stressful.

The best mid-life crisis I ever had

Honestly, I've been doing stand-up my whole life — in line at the grocery store, during parent-teacher conferences, and to every client who ever asked, “can we just knock down this load-bearing wall?” The only thing that changed on my 40th birthday was that I found a stage that would pay me for it. Now the rants that were previously reserved for my minivan are available for public consumption. You're welcome.

My family is the whole act. Half of them — my parents and my brother — are in Las Vegas, where the stakes are always high. My sister is in Norway, where the sun forgets to show up for half the year. And I'm a “Blasian” mom of three sons trying to find the balance between loud and logical. They are the loving, hilarious, slightly confusing reason I have so much to say.

Yes, I still sell houses. I hold an NC real estate license and I'm good at it, and it turns out open houses, inspection reports and closing day are a bottomless well of material. But I'm a comedian who happens to be a REALTOR, not the other way around.

Most Tuesdays you can find me at The Can Opener in Durham hosting the open mic, cheering on whoever's brave enough to go up next. Come through. Bring a homie.

What I talk about

Reinvention at 40

Starting something scary after the age everyone told you to have it figured out. Turns out that is the funniest possible time to start.

Wife, boy mom, everybody's auntie

Marriage, three sons, a family split between Las Vegas and Norway, and the specific chaos of being the one who always knows what's going on.

Real estate (yes, really)

Open houses, difficult clients, the inspection report from hell. If you have ever bought or sold a home, this part is for you.
